MAINTENANCE

Hello Woodlands interviewed JLTW President Kathryne Pruitt, who said, “This is our 19th annual holiday market. Last year we went virtual, so this year we’re very happy to see him come back. This is our main fundraiser for the Junior League of The Woodlands and it means a lot to us as it supports our nine community programs which cover women, children and family initiatives – so everything from victim support from human trafficking to our backpack program that feeds the kids on the weekends. What you’ll see in our market this year, what’s unique, is that we really focus on these mission areas, so you’ll see them on our t-shirts and signage, so you’ll learn a lot about the League. junior while shopping. This weekend.”

The last eighteen Junior League Holiday Markets have been held at the Woodlands Waterway Marriott, and again this year for the 19th annual event. “We have more than 120 suppliers,” said Catherine Pruitt. “Some of them are local favorites, but we also have a lot of new vendors here – so there’s a bit of everything. We have food, we have clothes for women and children, we even have manly gifts – there is something for everyone. We have salespeople both in the foyer – outside and inside. We will have Santa Claus on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and he is the REAL Santa Claus. Mrs. Claus will also be there to do activities with the children. The Holiday Market is a family event and strollers are reception Friday and Saturday after 2 p.m. and Sunday all day.

“The Junior League [of The Woodlands] is over 500 strong. The only thing we have is a minimum age of 22, so we really cover five generations of women. We come to volunteer. We cover everything from doctors, lawyers, moms, everything in between – and we are trained volunteers. One of the peculiarities of the Junior League is that not only do we give back to the community, but we also provide leadership opportunities to women in the league and that sometimes translates into their professional lives and vice versa.

“We [Junior League] are in the woods. We are located off Sawdust, but we cover North Harris and South Montgomery County. So we go all the way west to Tomball, Klein, we go to Montgomery, Magnolia, Conroe, Spring, Humble, Kingwood, Atascocitia and Aldine. So we really cover the entire north side.

By attending the Junior League Holiday Market, “You are supporting our local community,” shared Catherine Pruitt. “We’re putting all that money back into the local community through our nine branded programs, but also by supporting community partners across our service area, which includes the grants we give to them. At the end of the year, we have our community fund. We also do emergency relief if something catastrophic happens. Obviously, COVID has hit a lot of people, so we are also providing emergency funds during the year. Thus, it supports this initiative as well as our own programs, then within these programs, we have different community partners linked to those where they receive resources throughout the year.

“Come see us! We’re so excited to be back. It’s a really great experience and it’s only $ 15 at the door.
