Genesee County Salvation Army Looking To Hire Bell Ringers For Holiday Season
GENESEE COUNTY, Mich. (WJRT) – The Genesee County Salvation Army is looking to hire bell ringers for the upcoming Red Kettle 2021 campaign which begins the week of November 9.
Applications will be received on Friday October 15 and Monday October 18 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Citadel Corps in downtown Flint.
Salvation Army Major Kathy Hellstrom said she expects each location to hire nearly 40 more workers.
“It’s not an easy job because of the outside environment. The position will pay $ 9.65 per hour, but there could be bonuses for job performance, ”Hellstrom said.
Those interested in the position of bell ringer must be at least 18 years old and will also need to present proof of a valid driver’s license or state ID, social security card and a calendar of availablity.
“We operate about 50 kettles in the county and they are open, in some cases, from 10:00 am to 8:00 am, 10 hours a day, six days a week, so we have thousands of hours of time. We also need volunteers, but we can’t find enough people willing to volunteer, so that’s where those people come in, ”she said.
The Salvation Army bell ringing season begins Friday, November 12 and continues through December 24.
“A lot of the people we hire don’t have certain work backgrounds and basic work skills, so we give them the opportunity to work on those skills and get jobs and improve. These people have the opportunity to sell themselves, ”Hellstrom said.
The Salvation Army said workers should ring the bells every day except Sunday and Thanksgiving Day.
It is said that the application process takes about 60 minutes. For more information, call the Salvation Army at 810-232-2199.
